Don't forget to feed the squirrels and the birds - and the foxes and the hedgehogs - and stray cats (then neuter at PDSA).

Tatton Park - in cycle range of Wythenshawe

Tatton park is free to anyone not in a vehicle; walkers, cyclists (buy yourself a bike), balloonists, rocketmen, ...

Cars are charged at about £3 - so squeeze 140 people in your car and you have a genuine bargain on your hands; actually it might be good value for 2 people (I don't care - I cycle there and spend £3 on satsumas, bananas and anti pasta).

What we saw (and smelt) and heard

Lots of fresh air (actually that was transparent), grass, trees, a lake, sailing boats, fewer ducks than you might expect. I heard the wind and birds, and the sound of my wheels on the road; and myself talking to myself (but without moving my lips).

Hooray - saw no dogs - but on the way there, a dog with it's head out of a car window barked in my ear (on the bright side, my ear is still there).

All pictures taken on a hot day, in the month of May, 2004. Cost of day out was 0 pence; if you don't count the satsumas (I was on my bike and got sunburnt on my forearms, conk, noggin and cheeks; because I was squinting at the bright light).

Sheep enjoy tree shade

Very sunny day Grass at edge had damp
areas - so I sat on a tussock

On the way to Tatton Park - nearly there

Some pictures are not in the correct order and the tractor might have moved if you visit Tatton Park.

If I put my camera on a giant pole the road wouldn't look so wide. But there were no giant poles to hand at the time. Jurassic Park Very bright sun - that's
why I got burnt

On the way to Tatton Park - past Manchester Airport and Ashley village

The beauty of cycling is what you see on the way is often as good as what you're travelling to see - and you can stop and enjoy it.

From Wythenshawe via Gatley, Manchester Airport, Ashley village.
